Two New Jersey mayors and a state legislator were arrested on Thursday morning in connection with a corruption and international money laundering probe. At this time, federal prosecutors indicate that about 30 people in all have been taken into custody.

Among those arrested are Assemblyman Daniel Van Pelt, Hoboken Mayor Peter Cammarano III, Secaucus Mayor Dennis Elwell, and Jersey City Deputy Mayor Leona Beldini.

U.S. Attorney Ralph Marra’s spokesperson, Michael Drewniak, said in a statement:

“Approximately 30 arrests have occurred this morning in a two-track federal investigation of public corruption and a high-volume, international money-laundering conspiracy.”

The above-mentioned parties will appear in court in Newark. A press conference is scheduled for later this afternoon.
