Why is April 20th knows as “National Pot Smoking Day”?  This has to rank right up there with one of the stupidest “holidays” of all time…I mean that literally, marijuana kills your brain cells at an incredibly fast pace.

There are several different opinions on how this “holiday” cam about.

Steven Hager, editor of High Times, offers this explanation.

He says that the term “420″ was born at San Rafael High School in 1971 (which makes it about as old as a certain writer for Blippitt) when a bunch of pot-smoking students called “the Waldos” would meet after class around 4:20pm to light up near the campus’ statue of Louis Pasteur.  420 instantly became code for the appointed time to get high.  The code spread like wildfire, even getting a mention in some Grateful Dead songs.

Others, however, contend that 420 is the police dispatch code identifying pot smoking.  Still others claim that 420 is the number of chemical compounds found in marijuana.

Whatever your particular belief, enjoy killing your brain cells and making yourself impotent.
