The Heene family lawyer, David Lane, is now making the rounds in the media trying to drum up support for the family. Richard Heene and the rest of the family are certainly going to face serious legal ramifications for their dramatic balloon boy stunt. Several felony charges are anticipated, including possibly child abuse.
Lane is determined to not have them arrested in some sort of media circus and says the Heene family feels like it is “under siege.”
“The whole Heene family feels that they are in fact under siege at this point.”
“I’ve reached out to Law Enforcement in Larimer County and said these folks are willing to turn themselves in the minute you give me a phone call,” David Lane said on NBC’s Today show.
Investigators say that they want to question Rob Thomas, an associate of Richard Heene, after e-mails surfaced showing the two had discussed a balloon hoax several months ago as part of a PR stunt for a new reality show.
Thomas sold his story to the Gawker.com and also provided the site with correspondence between him and Heene. Thomas said the show would portray Heene as a mad scientist who conducts various scientific experiments.
“This will be the most significant UFO-related news event to take place since the Roswell Crash of 1947, and the result will be a dramatic increase in local and national awareness about The Heene Family, our Reality Series, as well as the UFO Phenomenon in general,” according to a copy of the reality show’s proposal provided by Thomas.
