hadron colliderA physicist who had been working on the large Hadron Collider experiment has been arrested in France on suspicion of providing al-Qa’ida with possible terrorist targets. Comforting, isn’t it?

The collider hopes to simulate the Big Bang.

The French scientist, 32, is now being held with his younger brother after being followed and bugged by French police for over 12 months.

A source informed the newspaper Le Figaro: “This is very high level.”

The French Interior Minister, Brice Hortefeux, stated that the investigation “may perhaps show that we have prevented the worst”.

The scientist, who has yet to be names, was arrested near Lyons on Thursday. It is thought that he gave terrorists possible nuclear targets within France.

The suspect was one of 7,000 people working on the Cern project, constructing a Large Hadron Collider with the goal of simulating the conditions of the Big Bang in an effort to answer lingering questions about the origin of our universe.

Since it opened in 2008, the 17-mile underground tunnel has, for the most part, been closed for repairs.
