On Saturday, groom in Raleigh, NC got ready for his wedding ceremony by going out with his friends for an early pre-ceremony breakfast.

Christopher Raynor, 28, was riding in the rear seat of his best man’s vehicle at 7:30 a.m. EDT on the morning of the wedding when a car ran a red light, striking the best man’s car.

Raynor was ejected from the car and tossed into traffic.  A third vehicle then ran over the injured groom. He was taken to an area hospital but later died.  The man driving the car that ran the red light was charged with a red light violation and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.

Fr. Salvatore Busichio then had the unpleasant task of letting wedding guests know what had happened as they were arriving at Raleigh’s Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Church.

At the wedding-turned-memorial-service, the distraught bride-to-be, Karen Taylor, spoke to the guests:

Taylor went to the pulpit after the service was over and thanked everyone for coming and said she realized by being there it had strengthened her and her love for him.

Taylor also discussed he final contact with her fiance via text message the morning of the wedding ceremony.

“He started off my day with a text message saying, ‘Yay,’ and he went on with the text message, saying, ‘I’m so ready,’” she said through tears. “And I think he is ready. I think he is ready for heaven.”
