Reggae legend Gregory Isaacs has died at the age of 59 at his London home after a yearlong battle with lung cancer.
Isaacs is probably best known for his 1982 hit “Night Nurse” (below). The reggae icon got the nickname of “Cool Ruler” from his 1978 album of the same name.
“Gregory was well-loved by everyone, his fans and his family, and he worked really hard to make sure he delivered the music they loved and enjoyed,” said his wife Linda Isaacs in a statement.
Despite his “cool” moniker, Isaacs had his fair share of tribulations during his lifetime, including a number of arrests over the years and a pretty hefty addiction to cocaine.
Isaacs was born in Jamaica, on July 15, 1951. His final album was 2008′s “Brand New Me” for the African Museum label.
