F My Life: It's Funny, It's True, Except When It Happens to You
More tough luck for Google. Following a Gmail outage this morning, Google Talk is now being targeted by a phishing scam that is spreading quickly.
The scam begins when you receive an IM from someone you probably haven't spoken with in a while with typical phishing jargon (“hey, check this out!”) along with a hyperlink to a tinyurl that takes you to a site called ViddyHo. Apparently, this site blasts out the message to all of your Google Talk contacts.
The ViddyHo website is quite crude and it doesn’t even tell you why you should enter your information, but many people are doing just that. Looks like word is starting to spread about it through Twitter at least.
As for that Gmail outage earlier today, businesses and governments who pay to use Google’s webmail service through the premiere edition of Google Apps will get fifteen days of free service added to their accounts, according to the Associated Press.
