F My Life: It's Funny, It's True, Except When It Happens to You

google squared labs Google Squared Thinks Outside of the BoxThere is no shortage of new search services being unveiled lately, and Google Squared, which we told you about last month, is the latest.

Google Squared hopes to take all of the world's information and organize it for you into neat, tidy little boxes.  No, really that's what it does...it gives you boxes.  That's what all the buzz is about...just some boxes.

Google Squared is an experimental search engine that is in Google Labs. It will provide you with search results that are broken down by category. Bing does this also, but in a different, and perhaps better way (via the left explore pane).

Google Squared is still in its early stages, but it is a significant next step toward the next iteration of the web.

The web is evolving into something more than an information repository through which you can search.

Eventually, we are seeing the web move toward more of a Star Trek computer, where you simply state what you want and the web provides it. That is the ambitious goal of Wolfram Alpha and things like Google Squared...to understand the actual intent behind your query.

As Google puts it:

This technology is by no means perfect. That's why we designed Google Squared to be conversational, enabling you to respond to the initial result and get a better answer. If there's another row or column you'd like to see, you can add it and Google Squared will automatically attempt to fetch and fill in the relevant facts for you. As you remove rows and columns you don't like, Google Squared will get a fresh idea of what you're interested in and suggest new rows and columns to add.

Still, I'm not a huge fan of the "boxed" format of Google Squared. I much prefer the Bing interface, which is unusual in its own right.

You can give Google Squared a spin here.  See the video below for more...
