Google has released a contacts manager that Google users can utilize without having to use Gmail to do so.

Google Contacts, formerly the part of Gmail that allows you to edit and manage your address book, is now a standalone service.

In Google Apps you will need to add the service via the control panel by clicking “add more services” and then clicking on “Contacts”.

There’s really nothing new to the service itself, just the fact that you can use it independently of Gmail is what is significant here.

You can import and export your contacts from external platforms like Outlook, Outlook Express, Yahoo, or Hotmail.  If you are an Apple user, you will need a utility called “A to G.”
