Google still reigns supreme, accounting for 71.97 percent of U.S. searches in the four weeks ending Nov. 29, 2008. Yahoo Search, MSN Search and Ask.com came in at 17.70 percent, 5.45 percent and 3.35 percent, respectively, according to Hitwise Search Engine Analysis Tool (via MarketingCharts).
The other, smaller 43 search engines accounted for 1.53 percent of U.S. searches. November marked the 4th straight month that MSN Live Search grew its search share. Searches on Google grew by 14 percent over last year.
Search engines continue to be the primary means that web surfers utilize to navigate to their favorite categories on the net. Looking at this year compared to 2007, Business and Finance, Sports, Online Video and Social Networking categories experienced double-digit growth in their share of traffic coming directly from search engines, while News and Media showed negative growth from search engines.
