Google has taken the “unexplained phenomenon” campaign one step further today, with a crop circle-themed Google Doodle.

Yes, today’s Google logo consists of the word “Google” spelled out in crop circles with a tractor completing the letter “L”.

Last week, Google revealed a strange logo where the letter “o” in the logo was being beamed up by a UFO.  When you clicked on that logo, you were taken to a page of search results for the term “unexplained phenomenon”.

Lots of possible explanations were thrown about, the most plausible of which can be found here.

Today, clicking on the crop circle logo takes you to a search results page for “crop circles” of course.

Big G also sent a tweet from its Twitter account with the map reference 51.327629, 0.5616088, which eagle-eyed sci-fi fans have identified as the center of the small town of Horsell in Surrey. This was the spot where H.G. Wells set the first UFO landing in his novel The War of the Worlds.

Surrey, England is also where there was a “flying saucer” sighting by a family in their car on the September 15th, back in 1985.

We are also just 6 days away from the birth date of H.G. Wells, so many are speculating that we could finally start getting some answers next week.

Really, though? Isn’t it fairly obvious? Google is trying to convey that its CEO, Eric Schmidt, is an alien.

How else do you explain things like this and this? Come on, people. This is an easy one.
