Summer Solstice 2011 Google LogoSummer. It turns me upside down.

That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, today, June 21, is the first day of summer (in the Northern Hemisphere).

Google is celebrating the day with a special logo (called a “Google Doodle”) by contemporary Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, who is renowned for his “Superflat” style that mimics Japanese animation and blends bright colors, often with dark themes.

Of course, while our half of the world is enjoying the longest day of the year, June 21 is also the shortest day of the year for the Southern Hemisphere.

Google users in the north will see Murakami’s “summer” logl, while those in the south will see Murakami’s alternative, Winter Solstice logo.

Check out both Takashi Murakami logos below.  Which one do you like better?
