Google felt the need to act. Microsoft now has Bing, which is doing quite well, and also recently signed a mega search partnership with Yahoo. Bing was starting to encroach on Google’s territory a bit and may be more of a threat than even the folks at Google realized.
Behind the scenes, the folks at Google have been working on a secret.
Imagine Google being faster AND more accurate than the current iteration of Google…that’s Google Caffeine: the next generation of Google Search.
This will be an entirely new search engine…a new and improved version of Google.
The new version is still “under construction”, but Google has released a new development version for public testing.
Google’s goal is to improve its indexing speed, accuracy, size, and comprehensiveness. Here’s what they say:
“For the last several months, a large team of Googlers has been working on a secret project: a next-generation architecture for Google’s web search. It’s the first step in a process that will let us push the envelope on size, indexing speed, accuracy, comprehensiveness and other dimensions. The new infrastructure sits “under the hood” of Google’s search engine, which means that most users won’t notice a difference in search results. But web developers and power searchers might notice a few differences, so we’re opening up a web developer preview to collect feedback.”
