It looks like Knol isn’t going anywhere any time soon, unlike many other Google products lately.

A few weeks ago, the 100,000th knol was published, not bad for a service that hasn’t been around that long – but this IS Google we’re talking about so I’m not surprised.

Knols are basically articles about specific topics, written by people who know about those subjects. Since the start of the project, there have been articles written on everything from sinus infections and Arctic exploration to long distance motorcycle riding and the Amphilinidea (the what?).

The Knol interface is now available in eight languages (Arabic, English, French, German, Italian, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish) and is expected to be translated into even more languages in 2009.

I’ve been a little hard on Google lately so I’m glad to see some good news coming from the Googleplex.
