The craze started with a steaming pile of….well, you get the idea.

Now, Gmail is adding tons and tons more emoticons into the mix.

A new feature, called Extra Emoji, adds a slew of new emoticons that you can include in Gmail messages.  In Japanese, “Emoji” means “emoticons” and they are insanely popular there.

“All of these extra emoticons are straight from the secret underground labs of some of the top Japanese mobile carriers, used with permission,” says Google.
