Fail Nation: A Visual Romp Through the World of Epic Fails.

It finally happened.

The Global Language Monitor announced today that Web 2.0 has beaten Jai Ho, n00B and Slumdog as the millionth English word or phrase.

It has officially now been added to the codex of the fourteen hundred-year-old English language. Web 2.0 is a technical term, of course, meaning the next generation of World Wide Web products and services.

It's rather ironic, given that Web 3.0 is now pretty much here.  In any case, Web 2.0 has crossed from technical jargon into much more common usage over the last six to twelve months.

Two terms from India, Jai Ho! and slumdog finished at number 2 and number 4, respectively.

Jai Ho! Is a Hindi exclamation signifying victory or accomplishment, while Slumdog is a slang term for children living in the slums.

Just missing the top spot was n00b, a mixture of letters and numbers that is a web term for newcomer, or "newbie".  It is also the only English word has two numerals in it.

You can read more about the one millionth English word over at the Global Language Monitor official website.
