What’s more fun than a 20-foot-long, one ton basking shark? A dead 20-foot-long, one-ton basking shark, of course.
That’s exactly what washed ashore at Gilgo State Park in New York on Tuesday afternoon.
The shark was already dead by the time the state parks department was notified, according to parks spokesman George Gorman.
Researchers from the Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation have been to analyze the carcass and determine how the shark died Gorman said.
After the investigation, the shark’s body will then be buried. Experts believe that the shark likely had some kind of illness.
Just when you thought it was safe.
