George Sodini Planned Gym Shooting for Months

George Sodini, the lunatic who shot and killed three women in a fitness center near Pittsburgh, apparently planned the massacre in great detail for months and backed out on at least one previous attempt, according to his journal.

Sodini, 48, entered a aerobics room at the LA Fitness gym in Collier, Pennsylvania at around 8pm EDT Tuesday evening. He turned off the lights and opened fire. He squeezed off about 50 rounds from at least two guns...all without saying a word.

Three women were killed and at least 10 other people were injured before Sodini killed himself.

When the bloodshed finally ended, George Sodini lay dead on top of a gun, next to one of his victims. Ironically, Sodini's girlfriend was one of the dead.

Sodini kept a log of his plans for months prior to the massacre. They were full of hatred toward women.

"Why do this?? To young girls? Just read below," he wrote. "I kept a running log that includes my thoughts and actions, after I saw this project was going to drag on."

His journal reveals that Sodini went into the club with guns ready on January 6, 2009 but backed out.

"It is 8:45PM: I chickened out!" he wrote. "I brought the loaded guns, everything. Hell!"

The journal reveals his frustration with his inability to connect with women.

One August 3rd entry reveals: "I took off today, Monday, and tomorrow to practice my routine and make sure it is well polished. I need to work out every detail, there is only one shot. Also I need to be completely immersed into something before I can be successful. I haven't had a drink since Friday about 2:30. Total effort needed. Tomorrow is the big day."

In a website posted under his name, George Sodini wrote chaotic notes about his hatred of women and how he was tired of being rejected by them. The posting ended with "Death Lives!"

Sodini was a member of the gym and lived in Carnegie, which is located just a few miles from the health club, according to authorities.

A representative for LA Fitness, Simon R. Barker, issued the following statement:

"Each of us in the LA Fitness family are shocked and saddened by the senseless acts of violence that took place at the Bridgeville area club this evening. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families and friends. We are working with local law enforcement as they conduct their investigation."
