F My Life: It's Funny, It's True, Except When It Happens to You
Sad news from the world of sports on this Christmas Eve.
George Michael, the longtime sportscaster known for his hit syndicated show The George Michael Sports Machine, died this morning at Sibley Hospital after a long battle with cancer.
Michael was sports director for NBC’s D.C. affiliate, WRC-TV, for 27 years. The George Michael Sports Machine began its syndicated run in 1984 and was seen on Sunday nights in the U.S. for more than 20 years.
NBC4 has released the following statement:
“George Michael was our friend and colleague for more than 25 years. He was a dynamic force around our newsroom and in the entire Washington area. George was a pioneer in sports broadcasting. He was a gifted interviewer, a master storyteller and one of the hardest working journalists out there. Our hearts go out to his wife, Pat, and his daughter, Michelle, both of whom also worked with us for many years, as well as the rest of his family.”
George Michael was 70 years old.
