Shanna Moakler, a former Miss USA winner, has quit her post as the head of the Miss California USA pageant as a direct result of the events surrounding Carrie Prejean.
UPDATE: Miss California Carrie Prejean was fired on June 10, 2009.
Yesterday, Donald Trump stated that Prejean would keep her Miss California crown in spite of the fact that she broke pageant rules via her involvement in the anti-gay marriage movement, and also her failure to mention that she had posed semi-nude and topless in photos.
Moakler said that she had to resign because she no longer believes in the organization.
“I cannot with a clear conscious move forward supporting and promoting the Miss Universe Organization when I no longer believe in it, or the contracts I signed committing myself as a youth,” she said. “I want to be a role model for young [women] with high hopes of pageantry, but now feel it more important to be a role model for my children. I am sorry and hope I have not let any young supporters down but wish them the best of luck in fulfilling their dreams.”
