Panda Labs has just uncovered in excess of one million backlinks with Ford-related anchor text that point to malware disguised as anti-virus software.
The unwary surefer is slammed with alerts from “MS Antispyware 2009″ stating that they must buy the software to protect their computers. MS Antispyware 2009 is a sham product and does nothing to prevent malware. In fact, the program itself IS malware.
Here is what occurs:
1. Internet user clicks on Ford link which takes them to a video.
2. User must then install a codec to watch the video.
3. Once the codec is activated, a message appears warning the user of malware.
4. User is given opportunity to purchase $79 anti-virus application
5. User buys it and is subsequently scammed
