Flickr has always been known as one of the main picture sharing websites on the internet. It’s also not a bad place to share videos.
That privilege, however, has been reserved for “Pro” users – until today.
The service has now opened up video sharing to all Flickr users. Pro members will now also be able to go “high-def” with their vids.
Members with free accounts will be allowed to upload 2 videos each month. Pro members will continue to be able to upload unlimited 90-second videos, but will have the added option to upload HD content.
Flickr’s General Manager, Kakul Srivastava, says:
“We want to see what the rest of the community has to share, so we are extending the ability to upload video to all of our members … Video, like photos, is quickly moving beyond a means to simply preserve memories and into a social activity that allows people to communicate and connect. As more devices have the ability to capture both, we’re seeing Flickr members capture videos along with photos to share their view of the world.”
I think it may take more than two videos per month to get users psyched up about this change. We shall see.
