Mozilla released an important update to Firefox 3 on Tuesday. The update fixes 12 security issues with the browser, four of which it says are “critical.”
Firefox 3.0.9 is Mozilla’s third update this year for the browser. It fixes two critical vulnerabilities in the Firefox browser engine and two in its JavaScript engine, according to a security advisory posted yesterday:
Mozilla developers identified and fixed several stability bugs in the browser engine used in Firefox and other Mozilla-based products. Some of these crashes showed evidence of memory corruption under certain circumstances and we presume that with enough effort at least some of these could be exploited to run arbitrary code.
If you’re looking for new features, though, you’ll have to wait until the release of Firefox 3.5 later this year.
Mozilla had initially planned on debuting its new “Shiretoko” version of Firefox in early 2009, but after releasing Firefox 3.1 beta 3 in March, the company decided on a fourth beta, with the new version number 3.5.
