Fat-Tuesday-Free-Pancakes

It's Fat Tuesday 2009 and you know what that means.  That's right - it's National Pancake Day so you get free pancakes at IHOP.

The free pancakes are available until 10 p.m. in your timezone tonight. It isn't all-you-can-eat, but you will get a free short stack, which contains three buttermilk pancakes. Mmmmm....pancakes.

International House of Pancakes asks that you make a small donation to the Children’s Miracle Network (or any local charity that supports children’s hospitals). In 2008, IHOP managed to raise $875,000! This time they are hoping for $1 million.

So why do this on Fat Tuesday? Here's the word from International House of Pancakes:

“Known also as Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras, National Pancake Day dates back several centuries to when the English prepped for fasting during Lent. Strict rules prohibited the eating of all dairy products during Lent, so pancakes were made to use up the supply of eggs, milk, butter and other dairy products…hence the name Pancake Tuesday, or Shrove Tuesday.”

You can find your local IHOP here.
