UPDATE 4: This now looks like it may have been an elaborate hoax. Details here.
A 6-year-old boy, Falcon Heene, has climbed into a homemade helium balloon aircraft and been whisked into the Colorado skies on Thursday, causing officials to scramble rescue him as he flies through the air.
The strange occurrence is playing out on live TV, and spectators are hopeful that the saucer does not crash with the boy aboard. The FAA has been notified and it’s unclear whether controllers have picked up the small craft on radar.
Sheriff’s spokeswoman Eloise Campanella has stated that the device could possibly reach 10,000 feet. The device was last spotted floating south of Milliken, which is lies about 40 miles to the north of Denver.
