Hoorah! The wait is over. Facebook launched vanity URLs, or usernames, at midnight last night. If you haven’t done so, go register your username (if it’s still available, that is).
Facebook has said that 200,000 usernames were registered in just the first 3 minutes.
That’s equivalent to 1,111 URLs being registered per SECOND! Amazing.
They also report that, during the first 15 minutes, 500,000 usernames were registered. Well, that’s much better. That means that things slowed down to “only” about 555 URLs per second!
Overall, things went pretty smoothly and there were no major server outages. Way to go, Facebook!
