Don't look now, MySpace, but Facebook has just grown to DOUBLE your size.
Facebook now has about 125 million more users than MySpace does. MySpace added 4 million new users in December to 125 million total. Facebook, by comparison, drew 222 million users in December - wow!
The page view difference is even more substantial. Facebook had 80 billion monthly page views in December. MySpace? 43 billion. It's hard to believe that just six months ago the sites were almost the same size.
MySpace offered a statement in response, and it's not denying that it's been eclipsed in traffic:
Sphere: Related ContentWe are laser focused on building a sustainable global business which we measure by profits and revenue--not just eyeballs. In a tough economic climate, our international revenue is up 30 percent year over year and we continue to focus on those markets with the strong monetization opportunities.
Additionally, MySpace continues to dominate the U.S. market--where the bulk of online advertising revenues reside--both in terms of monetization and user engagement with more than 76 million unique users and a 40 percent spike in engagement year over year.
It's nice to see you again! Thanks for reading Blippitt. What do you think of this story? Be sure to leave a comment below.
