UPDATE – 4:00 p.m. EDT: Facebook has chimed in, “We’re currently experiencing some site issues causing Facebook to be slow or unavailable for some users. We are working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible. This is unrelated to yesterday’s outage.”
What’s wrong with my computer? Is Facebook down? It isn’t just you. The popular social networking website has crashed for just about everyone it seems.
Taking a quick look at Twitter, you can see that the problems are widespread. This is the second major outage in two days for Facebook.
The website DownRightNow reports that a “service disruption” is “likely.” DownForEveryoneOrJustMe.com also confirms that Facebook is currently down.
The company reports latency issues with its API on its developer site, but the problem is clearly broader than that with thousands of users tweeting about the outage.
The timing is rather poor as Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, who is now #35 on the Forbes list of richest people in America, is giving troubled schools in Newark, N.J., a huge gift of $100 million gift on The Oprah Winfrey Show on Friday.
As it happens, that’s the same day the unflattering movie “The Social Network” premieres in New York, a movie in which Zuckerberg is portrayed as a being power-hungry, somewhat-evil genius.
So when will Facebook be back up? Your guess is as good as ours. I guess it’s time to step away from your computer and actually go talk to some people face-to-face.
