IT’S FINALLY HERE: LOST: The Complete Collection
It came to be known as “The Fork in the Outlet“. Whatever you want to call it, the LOST season finale on ABC tonight delivered.
Warning: SPOILER ALERT
We finally, FINALLY got to see the mysterious “Jacob”, who has seemingly popped up everywhere throughout our heroes’ travels, which we didn’t know until tonight (did he bring Locke back to life after he fell from the window??).
How much control does Jacob really have? Why was he reading “Everything That Rises Must Converge“, by Flannery O’Connor?
The story was first published in 1961 and makes a statement about the Civil Rights Movement and desegregation happening across America.
The story highlights the generational differences between Julian, who represents the Civil Rights Movement and tolerance, and his mother, who represents racism and close-mindedness. The story doesn’t just harp on right and wrong with race, but openness and tolerance for the previous generation’s ideas.
Are we witnessing some sort of Civil Rights Movement on the island? That would seem to be the most likely interpretation.
Just how exactly did our mystery guest from the beginning of the episode seemingly morph into John Locke and convince everyone that he had come back from the dead? Did he really kill Jacob? Who is coming, according to Jacob?
What happens to our island castaways now that Juliette has managed to detonate the bomb?
At least we now know the answer to one question…
What lies in the shadow of the statue? Jacob.
Interesting translation note:
Ille qui nos omnes servabit = “He who will save us all.” (Thanks, E! I had Latin WAY to long ago to remember that one.)
So who is now “the savior”? Is it Ben? Is it the mostly-dead Locke? Is it Jacob?
As usual, LOST left us with plenty of questions that need answering. Sadly, we’ll have to wait for 2010 to get some answers.
