Eunice Kennedy Shriver

Eunice Kennedy Shriver is in critical condition at a hospital in Massachusetts this evening. Shriver is the sister of former President John F. Kennedy and Senator Ted Kennedy.

Currently at her beside is her family, including Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and his wife, Eunice's daughter, Maria Shriver. She is staying at Cape Cod Hospital.

"Eunice Kennedy Shriver is in Cape Cod Hospital in intensive care in critical but stable condition," read a statement by the Shriver family. "Her entire family is with her -- her husband, all her children and her grandchildren. The family is grateful for the prayers of her many friends."

Shriver, 88, helped establish the Special Olympics 41 years ago and in 1984, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her work.
