It’s been a tough year for Arkansas. First, there were those Mass Animal Deaths, now there’s a barrage of earthquakes. Close to two dozen earthquakes of magnitude 2.3 or more have hit the state since midnight on Wednesday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The largest of the quakes, which registered a 4.3 on the Richter scale, hit at 2:13 a.m. local time on Friday. It followed a 4.0-magnitude earthquake that struck at 11 p.m. Thursday night.
So far, there has been no damage from any of the temblors. Many residents dd report hearing what sounded like a “boom” at the time of Friday’s earthquake.
The earthquake swarm is not an entirely new phenomenon for the region. Last fall, more than 500 earthquakes were recorded in less than one month’s time.
