F My Life: It's Funny, It's True, Except When It Happens to You

Popeye Google Doodle E.C. Segar Remembered with Popeye Google Doodle

If you're like most people, you probably woke up this morning and asked, "Why is Popeye on Google today?"  The reason is simple.

E.C. Segar, the man who created Popeye the Sailor Man would have celebrated his 115th birthday today, if he were still alive that is.  Google has decided to commemorate the occasion with a special Google Doodle, the term used to describe Google's festive logo creations.

Today's Google Doodle shows Popeye about to wolf down a can of spinach. If you hover your mouse over the logo, you will see the message "E.C. Segar's Birthday."

E.C. Segar, as noted on Wikipedia, was born on December 8, 1894 and died in October, 1938.  Popeye was born in 1929 in a comic strip called "Thimble Theatre," before later moving on to the silver screen.
