Dunkin Donuts has temporarily halted the selling of hot chocolate and Dunkaccino products after finding out that the equipment used at one of its supplier’s facilities may have been contaminated with salmonella.
The Canton, Mass.-based company said on Tuesday that none of its products were actually contaminated and that this withdrawal is merely a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of its customers. Dunkin Donuts has about 6,400 franchised locations in the U.S. and serves about 3 million people per day.
Plainview, Minn., supplier Plainview Milk Products Cooperative announced it had voluntarily recalled its instant nonfat dried milk and whey protein because of potential salmonella bacteria contamination. It says there were no reported illnesses.
Dunkin’ Donuts expects to resume hot chocolate and Dunkaccino sales shortly.
