Dr. Seuss Biography
Dr. Seuss was born Theodor Seuss Geisel in Springfield, Massachusetts on March 2, 1904. Seuss grew up in New England and attended Dartmouth College, where he began his writing career and also where his “Doctor” moniker was formed.
As legend has it, Dr. Seuss was caught partying during Prohibition. Consequently, the school took away his extra-curricular privileges, one of which was for a school paper called the Jack-o-Lantern. Dr. Seuss, however, wanted to keep on writing, so he began writing under the name of “Dr. Seuss” to keep administrators from realizing it was him.
He went on to write the classic works listed above. Dr. Seuss passed away in 1991 at the ripe age of 87.
