doodle 4 googleToday, Google announced that it will kick of its second annual Doodle 4 Google contest.

Doodle 4 Google 2009

Google “doodles” are those special logos that appear on the Google homepage to mark various holidays and other important events.  Doodle 4 Google gives one child the opportunity to have their own artwork featured on the Google homepage for millions to see.

This year, Google wants your child to draw “What I Wish for the World,” a view of what they want their future, and the future of our world, to look like.

To add a little excitement to the mix, this year Google has partnered with the Smithsonian’s, Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum.  This means that as an added bonus, your child’s artwork could also be exhibited at the Smithsonian museum.

Other prizes include a college scholarship and a technology grant for your child’s school.

This year, Google has raised  the college scholarship prize for the national winner up to $15,000.  Nice!  They’ve also added a $10,000 prize for the school district that submits the most high-quality entries.

Finally, in partnership with Cooper-Hewitt, Google will be celebrating the 40 finalists and announcing the national winner in New York City, to coincide with the opening of the exhibit. Please visit the official competition website for a full listing of all contest rules and requirements.

Only students from registered schools can enter, so teachers, if you want to participate please register your school by March 17, 2009. All doodles must be submitted by March 31, 2009.
