You may remember that, back in October, we told you the story of Dennis Earl Bradford – the man who thought he had gotten away with raping an eight-year-old girl, slitting her throat, and leaving her for dead in a field, only to be found and arrested 19 years later.
It seems that karma is a real bitch as Bradford was found hanged in his jail cell earlier this month.
Galveston County sheriff’s Maj. Ray Tuttoilmondo says that Bradford, 40, was found hanged in an apparent suicide. Tuttoilmondo says there was no evidence of foul play and Bradford had fashioned a noose from bedding in his cell.
DNA evidence led to the October 2009 arrest of Bradford in North Little Rock, Arkansas.
Jennifer Schuett, who was just 8 when she was attacked by Bradford , says she is “shocked and disappointed” that her assailant resorted to suicide as she had hoped to face him in court and watch justice be served.
She had even written her victim’s impact statement.
“You chose the wrong little, 45-pound, 8-year-old girl to try and murder,” she wrote. “Because for 19 years, I’ve thought of you ever single day, and helped search for you. And every year that’s passed has given me more strength and drive for when I finally would be face to face with you, as I am today.”
Schuett said she will continue to “use her voice” to stand up for other victims. Schuett maintains a website at www.JusticeForJennifer.com.
