Did David Letterman drop a bombshell on us or what? Last night on The Late Show, Letterman made a shocking admission.
He disclosed the fact that he had been the victim of a $2 million extortion plot. It seems someone dropped off a package for him about three weeks ago and threatened to break the story of Letterman’s affair with Stephanie Burkett, a female co-worker.
The extortion note read:
“I know that you do some terrible, terrible things – and I can prove you do these terrible things.”
Letterman then said:
“This morning, I did something I’ve never done in my life. I had to go downtown and testify before a grand jury. I had to tell them all of the creepy things that I had done. The creepy stuff was that I have had sex with women who work for me on this show.”
Letterman has a 6-year-old son, Harry, with Regina Lasko. He has been with her for 23 years and married Regina Lasko earlier this year.
David stated that he participated in the sting operation against the perpetrator. Letterman went to meet him and gave the man a fake $2 million check.
Robert Halderman, a producer for the CBS show 48 Hours, was arrested on Thursday. Halderman was living with Burkett.
Interestingly, the affair took place before Letterman married Regina Lasko and before the birth of his son.
After he finished relating the events to the audience, Letterman said: “I don’t plan to say much more on this particular topic.”
