F My Life: It's Funny, It's True, Except When It Happens to You

Google Health is taking strides to become the internet juggernaut of online health.

In a blog post this morning, Google announced that CVS has just been added to its network of pharmacy partners.  Now, more then 100 million users can manage their prescription history online and import it into a central Google Health account.

Having a list of all your medications all in one place from the pharmacies you shop at helps your doctor, pharmacist and other care providers do a better job of taking care of you. In fact, it's estimated that 1.5 million Americans are sickened or injured each year by errors in prescribing, dispensing and/or taking medications. Some experts suggest that medication errors claim more than 7,000 lives each year. Making your medications known to those who care for you is a simple step to ensure you get the best possible care. Not to mention, imagine how important having immediate access to this information could be during an emergency.

If you have pharmacy benefits through your workplace, you might be able to import your prescription history into Google Health as well.

Google now works with Medco and CVS Caremark, so check your insurance card to verify whether or not you have a prescription card from either of those companies.

If you do happen to be a member of Medco or CVS Caremark, just log in to your Medco or Caremark account first, then simply link your Google Health profile to it.

If you are unsure who handles your pharmacy benefits, call the phone number on the back of your prescription drug card.
