Craigslist Killer: Fiancee Megan McAllister Says ‘You’ve Got the Wrong Guy!’

UPDATE: Markoff has committed suicide in prison.

After a massive investigation following last night’s arrest of Philip Markoff (AKA the “Craigslist Killer”), Boston police have found guns and plastic ties, and police believe his motive was to pay off gambling debts he had accumulated.

Markoff’s fiancee, Megan McAllister, says police have got the wrong guy. In an e-mail to ABC News, Megan McAllister writes:

“Unfortunately, you were given wrong information as was the public. All I have to say to you is Philip is a beautiful person inside and out and could not hurt a fly! A police officer in Boston (or many) is trying to make big bucks by selling this false story to the TV stations. What else is new?? Philip is an intelligent man who is just trying to live his life so if you could leave us alone we would greatly appreciate it. We expect to marry in August and share and wonderful, meaningful life together.”

At least initially, however, the facts seem to state otherwise. As we are seeing more and more often, bloggers have been able to quickly assemble a portrait of the alleged criminal online. The Boston University medical student has a Facebook page , online class schedule and a website for a wedding (located at http://megan-philip.com/) scheduled for August of 2009 to be held on the Jersey Shore, where Makoff was to marry his University of Albany college sweetheart.

NOTE: The website has been pulled down.  Either Megan McAllister is having second thoughts, or all the attention made them want to keep things a little more private.

They seem to have been moving along with their wedding plans until all of this, registering at Bloomingdale’s before reconsidering and switching over to Pottery Barn, Williams-Sonoma and Macy’s (see below).

Following the arrest of Philip Markoff, Craigslist CEO Jim Buckmaster issued a statement, saying, “We are very pleased to hear that the person alleged to have committed these crimes has been arrested, and we will continue to provide law enforcement agencies with any assistance necessary to prosecution of the case.”
