Craigslist is just saying “no”…to sex ads, that is.
In an effort to curb “human trafficking”, the online classified ad service has signed an agreement with 40 state attorneys general to fight prostitusion.
Now, anyone who wants to post an ad in their “Erotic Services” section will need to provide a valid phone number and a credit card number, which will then be charged for the posting of the ad.
Early this year, Connecticut’s attorney general, Richard Blumenthal, who was representing 40 different states, sent a letter to Craigslist highlighting concerns about their ability to better enforce its own rules against illegal activity, including prostitution. The two parties then initiated a series of discussions regarding what Craigslist could do to prevent such ads.
It seems that the party’s over, at least in this section of Craigslist.
