It looks like Jennifer Love Hewitt could eventually replace Mariska Hargitay as the lead female detective on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Hargitay has reportedly just inked a deal to come back for a 13th season in a reduced capacity.
Hargitay had requested that her workload to be scaled back a bit, according to TV Guide, and will work fewer hours for the same salary of $385,000 per episode.
Rumor has it, her character, Detective Olivia Benson, will be promoted to a supervisor position and a new female detective, presumably Hewitt’s new character, will take her place.
Hewitt, who portrayed a rape victim on SVU earlier this season, has not officially received an offer yet.
Also, Hargitay’s partner on the show, Christopher Meloni would like a raise and has not locked in a deal yet.
