UPDATE: Markoff has committed suicide in prison.
Boston police arrested a 22-year-old premed student Monday night whom they have determined to be the “Craigslist Killer”. Philip Markoff, a Boston University student who resides in Quincy, will be arraigned on murder charges on Tuesday.
Police said that the doctor-to-be has no prior record but they believe he has been preying on escorts for a while. Philip Markoff is believed to have murdered a New York masseuse and attacked at least two other escorts in area hotels.
“He is a predator,” said Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis. “There may be other victims out there, and we want to help you.”
Markoff will also be pegged with kidnapping and robbery associated with an attack four days earlier in a Boston hotel on an erotic dancer who advertised on Craigslist.
Police also think that he was involved in the April 16 robbery of a Las Vegas prostitute in Rhode Island.
The arrest came just hours after police released new security camera pictures showing Markoff walking to and from the three crime scenes and examining his BlackBerry.
The photos were taken last week in a Rhode Island Holiday Inn Express where a prostitute from Craigslist was tied up and robbed at gunpoint.
Markoff is expected to be charged in that incident as well.
