Fail Nation: A Visual Romp Through the World of Epic Fails.

Ralph Ruckman (AKA "Ruck") over at the Convert2Media CPA advertising network has announced that the payout on commission for all sub-affiliates referred will be dropping from 5 percent "for life" down to 2 percent.

Note that we have already updated this on our CPA Affiliate Network Reviews page.

The reasons cited are mainly that referrals are just not that big a part of their business model.

They must be doing pretty well, because Kris over at CashTactics has said that Ruck basically asked him to cut BACK on the referrals so they could provide better customer service to their clients.

Bottom line: I don't agree with it.

I have a ton of respect for Ruck, both as a marketer and as a networking owner.

Still, when you agree to something "for life", then that means "for life".  I believe that you do what you say you're going to do, when you say you're going to do it.

When affiliate marketers try to make a living based on certain percentages and payouts, their paychecks and families are affected when you change the rules of the game AFTER you have already agreed to them.

Imagine if you were selling a product and making 5 percent on it, let's say you were making $5,000 per month.  Nice.

Then, the company says, "Hey, we've changed our minds.  Now we're only going to pay you 2 percent."

Suddenly, you're only making $2,000 per month.  Not good.

Whether it's a reduction in payout or sometimes not even getting paid at all, the affiliate is often the one that inevitably gets the shit end of the stick in this industry.

Again, I have nothing but respect for Ruck.  The guy has as sharp a mind as one can have for affiliate marketing and he's made some of the most helpful posts I've ever read on both his blog and in the C2M forum.  I'm simply not one to hold back.  I call 'em like I see 'em.

I really don't even do that much business with Convert2Media compared to some of my other networks, so I'm sure my opinion won't carry much weight.

Still, the clear and obvious solution would be to make the payout 2 percent for all NEW affiliates who bring subs on board, and leave the payout at 5 percent for the existing affiliates.
