Early reports made it seem as though the Conficker C worm was all hype.  "No problems here," seems to be the chorus of the day.  We knew this was coming today, however, and no one is laughing at Conficker now, however.

The Conficker C worm (AKA Conflicker virus) has wormed its way into VeriSign’s root servers.  The worm erased hundreds of thousands of .com and .net registration records.

“We have never seen anything like this before,” said James Bidzos, the Executive Chairman of VeriSign’s Board of Directors and Interim CEO. “We have a number of security measures in place to prevent such a thing, but nothing could have prepared us for what Conficker C has done. We are still investigating the situation and confident that we will be able to eventually re-gain the registration data from our backup data facilities on the Cocos Islands and Tuvalu, but there are a number of preventative measures we must first complete to ensure that information does not get corrupted as well.”

UPDATE: This is now a confirmed April Fools Day hoax.

We still highly recommend that you visit the Amazon Security Solutions page now.  There you can compare Norton, McAfee, BitDefender and even Kaspersky Anti-Virus.  If you are concerned about malware on your computer, Amazon Security Solutions Conficker C Worm Hits VeriSign: Massive Data Loss is the only page you need to bookmark.
