Uh oh. It looks like Britney Spears isn’t the only one who can come up with clever “F.U.” puns.
Except, in this case, the person who came up with the idea didn’t do so intentionally.
A Colorado woman is upset over the state’s decision NOT to approve of her vanity license plate. The woman applied to have a plate reading “ILVTOFU”, which of course expresses, she says, her love for tofu.
Kelly Coffman-Lee says loves tofu. She is a vegan and wanted to express her love for the bean curd on her vehicle.
Colorado’s Department of Revenue is playing it safely, however. The state argued that, even if her intention was to have the plate read as “I-LV-TOFU,” it could easily be read another way, as “I-LV-TO-F-U.”
Coffman-Lee says that the ruling is “crazy,” telling media outlets that tofu is “very wholesome.” The state isn’t buding on its verdict, however:
“We don’t allow ‘FU’ because some people could read that as street language for sex.”
