Chris Brown, who beat and choked Rihanna in his Lamborghini back in February, has been formally sentenced in L.A. The singer must now clean graffiti and wash automobiles for a total of 1,400 hours in Virginia.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg had this to say about why Brown's sentencing was delayed:
"I delayed sentencing last time because I wanted to see what the state of Virginia was going to require from Mr. Brown. I wanted a firm plan. I wanted to see actual physical labour rather than some sort of community service. I have read this new one and reviewed it and I’ve also received a letter, addressed to me, from the Chief of Police of Richmond who said that he understands and will personally supervise you in performing your manual labour task, which include washing cars, cleaning and maintaining grounds, graffiti removal. He will personally supervise your work."
Chris Brown, who took a plea deal after being hit with felony assault charges (meaning he would plead guilty in return for no jail time), also got five years' probation and has been ordered to attend domestic violence classes for one full year.
Brown will also have to pay fines of about $5,000 and appear in court every three months beginning on November 19.
Judge Schnegg also banned Brown from contacting Rihanna for five years. He must also stay at least 100 yards away at all times, except at entertainment events, where he must stay 10 yards away.
Several reports are already reporting that the couple has broken the restraining order.
Judge Schnegg asked this of Brown in response to the rumors:
"I’m not immune to any chatter on the airwaves. Do you understand, Mr. Brown, that any violation of this order is a violation of your probation and it comes with the possible penalty of prison?"
Chris Brown replied that he did indeed understand the terms.
