Chinese New Year BuffettBillionaire Warren Buffett is full of surprises, not the least of which was playing the ukulele for a huge television audience to celebrate the Chinese New Year today.

For the Chinese, 2012 marks the Year of the Dragon, which began at midnight.

“We know of Mr. Buffett’s investing genius, but we did not know that he can sing as well,” remarked a local TV host as she introduced the clip of the 81-year-old chairman of investment giant Berkshire Hathaway.

The video was aired by China’s state-run television CCTV, which puts on a glitzy television extravaganza annually on the eve of the Chinese New Year.

“I am Warren Buffett, and I’d like to wish all the people of China a Happy New Year in this Year of the Dragon. Your country has accomplished amazing things, and the best is yet to come,” Buffett said before belting out “I’ve Been Working On The Railroad”.

At the end of his performance, he raised his hand and said “Xiexie,” the Chinese word for “thank you.”

Buffett is a major investor in China. His company owns 10 percent of the Chinese battery and car maker BYD. His $250 million investment into that company has doubled in value.

He’s also invested about $500 million in PetroChina, a gas and oil giant that yielded over $3 billion in profits when he cashed out after five years.

Check out his performance below.
