Cheerleader Sarah JonesCincinnati Ben-Gals cheerleader Sarah Jones entered a plea of not guilty yesterday in court to charges of first-degree sexual abuse.

She also pleaded not guilty to unlawful use of electronic means to induce a minor to engage in sexual or other prohibited activities, a charge often seen with those who deal in child pornography.

Jones’ 55-year-old mother, Cheryl Jones, also appeared in court alongside her daughter to plead not guilty to tampering with physical evidence in the case. Cheryl Jones was suspended from her job as principal at Twenhofel Middle School after being indicted last week.

Each of the charges is a felony, punishable by up to five years in prison.

As we reported earlier, Sarah Jones, the captain of the Cincinnati Bengals cheerleading squad, was indicted by a grand jury last week for allegedly having sex with a teenage student while teaching at a high school in Ohio.

Judge Patricia Summe reduced Sarah Jones’ $50,000 bond and Cheryl Jones’ $30,000 bond to $15,000 each. The pair will need to be placed on electric monitoring as a condition of their release.

Summe further ordered that the daughter and mother are to have no contact whatsoever with the underage victim and his family, despite the fact that the victim’s relatives attended the arraignment in support of the Joneses. The two families reportedly sat in the same pew in the courtroom as they waited for the case to be called.

“The families are friends,” said the Jones’ attorney, Charles Lester Jr. He is representing Cheryl and Sarah Jones until his partner, radio personality Eric Deters, returns on April 24 from a 61-day suspension for the practice of law in Kentucky.

The Jones’ case is set for trial on June 27.

The indictment states the alleged sexual relationship with the high school student took place between October 1 and December 31. Sarah Jones resigned on November 29 as an English teacher from Dixie Heights High School in Edgewood.

Sarah Jones’ estranged husband doesn’t seem to want to discuss the matter.

“To be honest with you, I don’t want to talk about her,” said Nathan Wilburn, who was 26 when the two got married. They are now looking to annul their marriage of nine months.

Sarah Jones’ amended petition for annulment was filed on March 21. It states that she worked as a secretary at Eric Deters Law Office, but a person who answered the phone there last week said Sarah Jones was not employed at the business.

Sarah Jones married Wilburn on July 16, but Sarah moved out of her husband’s residence on August 24.

“The marriage was not consummated by sexual intercourse,” according to the petition for annulment of marriage filed in Kenton Circuit Court.

Jones first made headlines in 2009, when someone at TheDirty.com wrote that Sarah had contracted two STDs from a former boyfriend. The site went on to say that she had sex with the man in her high school classroom.

Sarah Jones filed a still-pending federal lawsuit against the gossip website.
