A Russian cruise ship that has been struggling for days to pass through a huge chunk of ice has finally broken free and reached open water off of the coast of Antarctica.

The Captain Khlebnikov icebreaker, which was carrying 101 passengers, got jammed up in the ice earlier this week in the Weddell Sea off Antarctica. It took the troubled ship five days to free itself, according to Fareastern Shipping Co. spokesperson Tatyana Kulikova.

Of course, my question would be, why does an icebreaker have 101 passengers on it in the first place? Didn't they realize that it might get stuck - in ice?

Kulikova says it should now take the icebreaker three more days to return to Ushuaia on the Argentine coast. It will be arriving one full week late, thanks to it getting stuck in the ice, ice baby.

Officials said the passengers never were in any danger.

The cruise was advertised as a unique opportunity to watch emperor penguins in their natural habitat. The Finnish-built icebreaker has been used as a cruise ship for several years and carries two helicopters.

Kulikova said the icebreaker is scheduled to make another Antarctic cruise in the fall.

Two-week tours aboard the Captain Khlebnikov to see emperor penguins range from $13,890 to $22,690 per person.

Ah, so that explains it. Shell out 20 grand to go see some penguins - then get stuck in ice for a week. Sounds like a real shindig. Think I'll stick to watching them on The Discovery Channel while sitting in front of my fireplace.

Do you smell that?  Something evil is cooking and Kirk Cameron's insidious plan to derail "Darwin Day," which is coming up on November 22.

Cameron recently put the video below up on his blog announcing his scheme to sabotage "Darwin Day, an event marking the 150th anniversary of the publishing of Charles Darwin's "Origin of Species."

The former "Growing Pains" actor turned preachy Christian will send "Darwin Day" into utter turmoil by distributing 50,000 copies of Darwin's book to unsuspecting students at colleges around the U.S. Here's the catch: Kirk Cameron's copies of the book will be altered to include passages from the Gospel (insert evil Kirk Cameron laugh here).

"This is a beautiful 304-page color edition of Darwin’s famous 'Origin of Species,'" says Cameron. "So who isn’t going to take it and say, 'Thank you very much'?"

What would we do without you to save us from our evil ways, Kirk Cameron?

Christina Ambers, a top hand & foot model in New York, has filed a lawsuit against her upscale apartment complex, claiming the board is attempting to force her out due to the fact that she married its former porter, Angel Rotger.

Ambers bought a 700 square foot apartment in 2003 at 340 E. 74th Street.

She has now filed a $10 million lawsuit in Manhattan Supreme Court against residents and management of the same building known as the Avon House.

The lawsuit claims Rotger lost his job and that several building employees forced her to hail her own taxis and retrieve her own packages after the couple became romantically involved.  The couple married in July.

The suit claims residents object to "a Hispanic former porter" living in the building.

Building lawyer Joe Colbert has said that the claims are simply without merit.

Need proof that men are stubborn and don't like to ask for directions?

An 81-year-old man in Australia who went out to get his morning newspaper ended up driving almost 400 miles after getting lost and taking a wrong turn onto a highway, according to local police.  Eric Steward eventually stopped and asked for directions after driving for nine hours.  Nine hours!

I don't know about you, but if I step out to get a newspaper, I'm getting a little suspicious after the first 30 minutes or so have gone by.

Steward says he made a wrong turn and just kept on going.

"I just went out on the road to have a drive, a nice peaceful drive," he said, adding that he doesn't need a GPS as he's only been lost once.  What a doozy of a second attempt!

Steward, who had no idea where he was, pulled over and went up to a policeman at a gas station and asked for help.

"This little old man came up to me saying he was lost. He handed me his mobile and asked if I could speak to his wife," said Victorian Police Senior Constable Clayton Smith.

Ah, that explains it.  He was married.  Maybe he was just after a little peace and quiet.

I used to have a crush on Mariah Carey. After hearing about some of her bat-shit crazy antics over the past few years, I'm over it.

Mariah Carey has requested to have 20 white kittens at a "switching on the Christmas lights" ceremony. The request has been denied.

It seems Carey wanted the young cats (and 100 white doves to boot!) to accompany her at a ceremony at Westfield shopping center in London.

Get this - she also wants to be showered with butterfly-shaped confetti (her favorite insect) while standing on a pink podium and waving a magic wand. Yes, a freaking magic wand!

The diva will arrive in a Rolls Royce and be accompanied by mere a 80 security guards and her 15-person entourage.

Most of her demands have been met, but health and safety officials refused to provide the kittens and doves, as animals are forbidden in the complex.

Rumor has it that the type of car had to be changed six times until one was found that he people approved of.

Mariah Carey, who will appear on UK talent show "The X Factor" this weekend, recently admitted she loves being a diva, but - she doesn’t think she is demanding enough.

She said, “You know what? I guess I am a diva in many ways! When it comes to certain things, yes, I can be difficult and a little bit rigid about what I want.

“Am I demanding? I don’t think I’m demanding enough.”

Time for me to find another fantasy. Maybe Paris Hilton. She seems pretty sane.

The U.S. Postal Service has gone Scrooge this year by shutting down a program in North Pole, Alaska where volunteers responded to letters sent to Santa Claus. The program answered thousands upon thousands of letters every year.

The program will go on elsewhere in the U.S., but privacy concerns have led to more restrictions, and those tighter restrictions just aren't possible in Alaska.

Why all the fuss? In 2008, a post office employee in Maryland noticed that one Operation Santa volunteer was registered as a sex offender. Fortunately, the employee intervened before the volunteer could answer a child's letter, but the Post Office decided it was time to tighten things up.

The most visible effect of the Alaska shutdown will be that generically addressed to "Santa Claus, North Pole" won't be sent to the little Alaska town of 2,100, and therefore kids won't get a response back with a "North Pole" postmark.

North Pole Mayor Doug Isaacson isn't happy about the change. He agrees that change is necessary but he's upset that North Pole's program has been affected by a sex offender on the East Coast. He also thinks it's unfair that residents just found out about the change.

Isaacson says:

"It's Grinchlike that the Postal Service never informed all the little elves
before the fact. They've been working on this for how long?"

The three words that best describe this change are as follows, and I quote, "Stink, Stank, Stunk."

Did Thierry Henry use a handball help France cheat its way into the World Cup in South Africa in 2010?

It would be fun to say something profound, like "only time will tell," or "on HE knows that answer to that question," but the short answer is, yes, he cheated.  He's admitted it.

The debate surrounds Henry's apparent deliberate handling of the soccer ball before William Gallas' goal seals the French victory as well as their ticket to the tournament - at Ireland's expense.

The goal should have been nullified by Swedish referee Martin Hansson. He didn't, however.  He allowed it.  The Irish fans in attendance in Paris began chanting "cheat, cheat" at Thierry Henry.

Doesn't matter.  The goal will stand. There is no appeal process.

Sometimes cheaters do win.

Well, at least it's not another Sex Tape.

On her Tila Tequila Ustream page, Tila got naked, dancing around and ranted and rambled, apparently for hours.

In the past Tequila has been quoted as saying:

"People call me an attention whore, or whatever, but excuse me I'm a grown ass woman and I'm confident in myself. I think a woman's body is a beautiful thing. That's why I'm a lesbian. I was born naked. Anybody who is against that is gay and in denial."

Later in the video, Tila Tequila discussed her case against her ex-boyfriend, San Diego Chargers LB Shawne Merriman, whom she called a "woman beater".

Tequila is suing Merriman for $1.5 million over an alleged domestic violence incident that took place back in September.

Tila also added "this is the last time I'll ever be on UStream ever again."

Tequila's attorney, Cyrus Nownejad blames Shawne Merriman for the meltdown and that it was the "domestic violence" incident that more than likely "pushed her over the edge."

He says he will get Tequila some help.

What exactly happened to Demi Moore on the cover of the December issue of "W" magazine?

At first glance, she looks normal enough, but upon further inspection something jumps right out at you - something that isn't even there.

What the hell happened to Demi Moore's hip?  Did she have some sort of new hip reduction surgery?  Was she injured by an airport turnstyle when she forgot to turn sideways?

Her left hip is ominously missing, as it seems, in the cover photo.  How did this happen?

What's more likely is that she was Ralph-Laurenized, as Boing Boing puts it.

It looks like either the photographer, the editor, or someone in between did a little over-editing of the photo and no one caught it until it was too late.

Brilliant.  Now she'll have to have a hip replacement.

There’s a catchy new slogan making its way onto bumper stickers and spreading virally across the internet.

It simply states: “Pray for Obama: Psalm 109:8”

So what exactly does Psalm 109, verse 8 say?

“Let his days be few; and let another take his office.”

Har har, slamming the current President is nothing new.  There were plenty of tee shirts and stickers celebrating George W. Bush's last day in office: "1/20/09."

Still, there is something far more sinister in the context of this new bumper sticker.

The next verse is a bit more disturbing: “Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.”

Funny?  Not really, no.  Earlier this year, authorities shut down a Facebook poll asking whether or not President Barack Obama should be assassinated.

While this bumper sticker is not quite that blatant, it does represent a disturbing line of thinking, intended or not.  It's funny on the surface, but on a deeper level, it sends a message that's best left undelivered, no matter how you feel about the current regime.

Just one day after we broke the story to you, the Miss Universe sex tape is spreading virally across the internet.

Hiroko Mima and Anya Ayoung-Chee, who are respectively Miss Japan 2008 and Miss Trinidad 2008, are now the stars of this wonderful little romp on the dark side.

The video depicts Mima, Ayoung-Chee, and Ayoung-Chee's boyfriend Wyatt doing pretty much everything and anything you would expect to find in a celebrity sex tape.

Today alone, it was a trending topic on Google, Twitter, and Bing.  I guess sex still sells.

A bride is fuming after semi-nude, wedding-day photographs of her in her underwear popped up on a website.

Sara Bostwick has now filed a lawsuit against her wedding photographer for posting the pictures online.  She says the incident has given her post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Bostwick's wedding back in September of 2008 was photographed by Christian Oth Studio photographer Carolyn Monastra.  The Long Island bride says she specifically told Monastra not to photograph her putting on her wedding dress.

"Monastra took photographs of plaintiff's person in her underwear and in various stages of undress anyway," the lawsuit reads.  The suit has been filed in Manhattan Supreme Court.

About two months after the wedding, Bostwick's hubbie found the offending photos on the Christian Oth Studio website.

The studio supposedly agreed to remove the photos, but instead left them in place and now requires a special access code to view them.

A spokesperson from Christian Oth Studio had this to say regarding the lawsuit:

"We are surprised and disappointed to learn that Mrs. Bostwick has filed a lawsuit against us in which she claims that we intentionally violated her privacy. We have never posted any images of Mrs. Bostwick on our public website or in any other public venue. Client images, such as Mrs. Bostwick's, are posted on our proofing website and are always password protected... We believe that the substance of the allegations contained in Mrs. Bostwick's complaint are completely without merit, we emphatically deny those allegations, and we look forward to having this case dismissed."

Costco is raising eyebrows by taking a unique stance in a pricing disagreement with the Coca-Cola Company.  The company has banned Coke products from its Costco stores.

A Costco exec confirmed that the ban is now in place, stating that the dispute was over pricing, but refusing any further comment on the matter. Coke says they intended to negotiate in “a spirit of fairness” and that Costco is an “important customer” to them.  Coke’s current product line includes Coke, Diet Coke, Coke Zero, Sprite, Sprite Zero, Full Throttle energy drinks, Powerade, Minute Maid products and Aquafina water.

Costco isn't going to actually remove Coke products from its shelves, but it won't be restocking any of company’s offerings until the dispute has been resolved.

If you're a Diet Coke junkie like me, then you had better stock up while you can.

It's a crisis of epic proportions.  Eggo waffles are vanishing from store shelves - and they're not coming back any time soon.

Turns out there is actually an Eggo waffle shortage!

The shortage is being blamed on flood damage at a core bakery located in Atlanta, according to Kellogg, the company that makes Eggo waffles.

"I think that's insane. That's crazy," said one parent. "How do you run out of waffles?"

Some Eggo waffle boxes are still on the store shelves, but they won't be there long. You could be waiting until mid-2010 for more Eggo's.

The company has been making repairs to its equipment as quickly as possible but those repairs have taken longer than anticipated.

“Eggo is working around the clock to bring everyone's favorite waffles back to store shelves as quickly as possible. We hope to regain full distribution of Eggo products by the middle of 2010,” a post on the Eggo Website said.

Consumers can call 866-971-3320 for more information on the Eggo waffle shortage.

James Ng was going to pop the question to his fiancée while riding in a hot-air balloon.  His attempt to woo his true love came to a grinding halt when the engagement ring fell 500 feet, out of the balloon and into the woods below.

Ng, 26, had hidden the 1-carat diamond ring inside his camera case, which he promptly dropped.

"I just watched it tumble, and it hit a tree and spun around, and the stuff fluttered out of it," Ng recalls. "And I just put my head down on the side of the balloon, and I was just — I just couldn't believe I'd just done that.

"My first thought was don't tell her ... and buy another ring — which it took me forever to afford the one I had," Ng said. Sonya Bostic, 27, caught on, however. "When he reacted the way he did, that's when I knew," she says. "Wait a second! My ring's in there!"

Ng decided to drop to one knee and propose anyway. Luckily, Bostic said yes.

Once they were back on the ground, the real fun began.  Ng Googled maps and marked off search areas.  Ng and a friend initiated a massive search effort for seven days while Bostic wore a $9 Wal-Mart ring on her finger.

Then, he magically stumbled upon the camera bag!

"We ran up to it ... and we're like, 'Yes!' " Ng recalls gleefully.

The only thing still in the bag was the ring box. Ng and Bostic say it was a miracle.

"I just kept looking at it," Bostic says. "It was so beautiful. It was perfect. It was everything that I wanted. And that we found it, and I never thought in a million years we'd find it, that was truly God. It really was."

And that's not just a bunch of hot air.

I was going to write this post, but then I thought about it for a minute.

Since I know I am going to sit here and write it, then it stands to reason that in the future, this post will already be done. Therefore, if I wait long enough, the post will already be done. See? Here it is now...

You how that Large Hadron Collider has been running into lots of bad luck lately? Well, some are beginning to speculate that it may not be "luck" that's to blame.

Two physicists now speculate that the reason the Large Hadron Collider keeps running into trouble is due to the fact that the LHC’s quest to discover the Higgs boson (a theorized particle that scientists believe is what gives objects mass) is causing problems from the future to keep itself from being discovered.

"A pair of otherwise distinguished physicists have suggested that the hypothesized Higgs boson, which physicists hope to produce with the collider, might be so abhorrent to nature that its creation would ripple backward through time and stop the collider before it could make one, like a time traveler who goes back in time to kill his grandfather."

The scary part is...this might actually be happening!

Holger Bech Nielsen, of the Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen, and Masao Ninomiya of the Yukawa Institute for Theoretical Physics in Kyoto, Japan, have actually covered this theory in great detail in a series of papers with titles such as “Test of Effect From Future in Large Hadron Collider: a Proposal” and “Search for Future Influence From LHC,” which they've posted on the physics website arXiv.org within the past 18 months.

“It must be our prediction that all Higgs producing machines shall have bad luck,” Dr. Nielsen wrote in an e-mail message. In another unpublished writing, Dr. Nielson went so far as to say, “Well, one could even almost say that we have a model for God.” It is their thinking, he continues, “that He rather hates Higgs particles, and attempts to avoid them.”

This negative influence from our future, they say, could explain why the American version of the project, the United States Superconducting Supercollider, which was also created to find the Higgs, was canceled back in 1993 after billions and billions of dollars had already been spent.

This event was so unlikely that Dr. Nielsen referred to it as an “anti-miracle.”

Tennessee Titans owner Bud Adams was pretty pleased with his team's performance on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.

The 86-year-old Adams did a little dance as the Titans managed a 41–17 win over the Bills.  Then he faced the Buffalo sideline and gave the Bills a double-fisted, middle finger salute.

Adams had actually watched most of the game with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, but it looks like the commish missed the special salute.

What did the Titans think of the move?

"I don't know if he did it, but I condone fun things,'' cornerback Cortland Finnegan said. "If he was having fun doing it, then by all means, do what you do.''

Titans linebacker Stephen Tulloch adds: "He is a cool owner and it is good to see him around here supporting us. To have an owner like that, it's cool.''

UPDATE: Bud Adams has issued the following apology for his actions:

"I need to apologize for my actions yesterday near the end of the game. I got caught up in the excitement of a great day, but I do realize that those types of things shouldn’t happen. I need to specifically apologize to the Bills, their fans, our fans and the NFL. I obviously have a great deal of respect for Ralph Wilson and the history we have shared. I also understand there will probably be league discipline for my actions and I will accept those."

It has been almost three years since Heather Ellis cut in line at a WalMart store in Missouri and triggered a racially-heated incident with white customers and police. Now, the court case is about to begin that could send the young African American teacher to prison for 15 years.

On January 6, 2007, witnesses told police that Ellis cut in front of other customers who were waiting in line at the WalMart, shoved their purchases out of the way, and turned hostile when they confronted her, according to official court documents.

Heather Ellis says she was just moving into the queue with her cousin, whose checkout line was moving more quickly than her own. She went so far as to draft a formal complaint to the NAACP, in which she says she was then pushed by a white customer. She also says that WalMart employees began harassing her and hurling racial slurs at her, and the authorities mistreated her when they arrived on the scene.

According to the court documents, the police, however, maintain that Heather Ellis simply would not calm down and she would not leave the property. She also reportedly kicked one police officer and split another officer's lip while resisting arrest.

Her hearing on charges of assaulting police, resisting arrest and disturbing the peace will get underway this Wednesday in Dunklin County Circuit Court. The New York-based Your Black World has organized a Monday rally.  They have also initiated an online petition at SaveHeatherEllis.com.

Ellis, 24, is a school teacher in Louisiana and is engaged to a state trooper.

"What a shame the system can destroy a young person's future like this because of bad cops," Heather Ellis wrote in her letter to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People back in April of this year.

The NAACP then organized a rally in Kennett.  Prior to the start of the June 13 event, authorities found small, business card sized letters strewn about the area that the Ku Klux Klan had been there and that "the next visit will not be social."

Dunklin County Prosecutor Stephen Sokoloff said the letters were removed and no one ever found out from where they had originated, although he doesn't think the KKK was ever actually there as they have no presence in the region.

When asked whether or not Heather Ellis was truly mistreated by police, Sokoloff says that he has "seen absolutely no evidence of any kind, apart from her statements, that those things occurred."

Kennett Police Chief Barry Tate has made no official comment on the matter.

Ellis has rejected several plea deals so far.

"Why would you plea bargain if you're innocent?" said the Rev. Nathaniel Ellis, who is Heather Ellis' father.

"This is not a matter of justice," he said. "It's a vendetta."

According to her written explanation of what transpired in the WalMart, Ellis says she and her cousin had each gotten into separate checkout lines.  Seeing that her cousin's line was moving faster, Heather Ellis switched over to the faster line. Ellis says that the woman behind her pushed her when she attempted to put her purchases down on the belt.

Witnesses, however, say that Ellis pushed the woman's merchandise back to make room for her own items.

Heather Ellis goes on to say that a security guard and store manager were then summoned and the manager told her to get out of the store.  When she refused, they called the police.

The police officers followed Ellis out to the parking lot, using racial slurs. As her relatives pulled into the lot, Ellis claims the officers "jumped" her even though she was complying with their requests.

Officer A.W. Fisher says Ellis was given "every opportunity" to obey, but Heather Ellis refused and said she used an expletive in saying she would beat him if he put his hands on her.

Fisher then placed Ellis under arrest, but she still resisted as they were putting handcuffs on her.

Ellis then alleges that she was hurled against the doors on the way to the local jail and that a police officer tried to choke her with her own shirt while she was being held in custody.

WalMart spokesperson Lorenzo Lopez issued the following statement regarding the incident earlier this month:

"Incidents involving our customers are unfortunate and we take them seriously. In this matter, there was a disturbance and law enforcement was contacted, in accordance with our normal procedures. The police then determined how to proceed."
