The website of the Central Intelligence Agency was taken down this afternoon by the hacker group known as Anonymous.

“CIA Tango down,” a member of Anonymous tweeted via @YourAnonNews, a Twitter feed used by the group.

“Tango down” is an expression used by U.S. Special Forces when they have eliminated an enemy.

Attempts to access the CIA website at www.cia.gov were unsuccessful.

The CIA has not yet commented on the matter.

Just last month, Anonymous knocked the official websites of the U.S. Justice Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation offline.

Those attacks were in retaliation for the shutdown of file-sharing website Megaupload.

Anonymous has not elaborated on their reasons for taking out the CIA website.

Most Anonymous attacks are distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks in which a large number of computers are commanded to simultaneously visit a website, thus overwhelming its servers.

Well, Tommy Jordan is one dad who’s not going to take it any more.

You see, Tommy’s 15-year-old daughter posted a smart-mouthed, profanity-laced rant on Facebook to her “lazy” parents.  She didn’t think her dad would ever see it.

Well, he did.

He decided to post this video response to her Facebook wall.  After expressing his severe disappointment in his daughter and reminding her of how easy she’s got it, he takes out his pistol and SHOOTS her laptop – several times.

With so many abusive parents beating their kids these days, it’s nice to see a sensible dad who handles things the right way.

Finally, Jordan tells his daughter that whenever she’s no longer grounded, in “whatever year that may be,” she can go buy herself her own new laptop.

This video is going mega-viral, with over a million views since Wednesday.

In the description, Tommy says:

“My daughter thought it would be funny/rebellious/cool to post on her Facebook wall just how upset she was and how unfair her life here is; how we work her too hard with chores, never pay her for chores, and just in general make her life difficult.

She chose to share this with the entire world on Facebook and block her parent’s from seeing it. Well, umm… she failed. As of the end of this video, she won’t have to worry anymore about posting inappropriate things on Facebook…

Maybe a few kids can take something away from this… If you’re so disrespectful to your parents and yourself as to post this kind of thing on Facebook, you’re deserving of some tough love. Today, my daughter is getting a dose of tough love.”

A Tennessee couple who “unfriended” a woman were murdered in their home by the jilted woman’s father and another man, according to police.

“It’s the worst thing I’ve ever seen,” said Johnson County Sheriff Mike Reece, adding that he’d never seen anything like it in his 27 years on the job. “We’ve had murders, but nothing like this. This is just senseless.”

Billy Clay Payne, Jr. and Billie Jean Hayworth were killed in January after they removed Jenelle Potter, the daughter of one of the suspects, from their “friends” list. Both victims had been shot in the head and the man had his throat slit.

Their eight-month-old baby was in the mother’s arms, unharmed.

Marvin Enoch “Buddy” Potter Jr., 60, and Jamie Lynn Curd, 38, were each charged with two counts of first-degree murder. The men were arrested on Tuesday.

Reece said that a couple of harassment cases had been filed in court against Jenelle Potter recently due to someone “blocking her” on Facebook or “taking her off.”

“Once you’ve crossed her, you’ve crossed her father too,” Reece said.

Her father will head back to court next week for a bond hearing after he hires an attorney.

Curd, who is also a second cousin to one of the two victims, was appointed an attorney and bond was set at $750,000 for each murder count. His preliminary hearing will be held next month.

No charges have been filed against Jenelle Potter, the sheriff said. She could not reached for comment.

Curd’s attorney says it’s “safe to say there’s more to it than the Facebook problem, it appears.”

It just seems senseless to me to kill someone over Facebook. How long will it be before people who use FourSquare start killing people who take their mayorship away?

Dangerous times we’re living in. Dangerous times indeed.

The first thing you’re likely to notice about the Tesla Model X are its unique “falcon wing” rear doors. Instead of opening to the side, as regular minivan doors often do, these “falcon wing” doors open upwards instead, resembling the wings of a bird when they’re open.

The doors feature a double hinge so that they take up less horizontal space when opening, which comes in handy in tight spaces.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk says the doors give the Model X the largest door openings of any passenger car.

The Tesla Model X features seven seats and storage space in both the rear trunk and the front trunk, and it is touted to handle much like a sports car. The Model X accelerates from 0 to 60 in 4.4 seconds, which is fairly impressive for an electric vehicle.

The Model X is said to be priced similarly to the Model S ($50,000 to $70,000) and will have a slightly lower electric driving range than the Model S, which comes in 3 options – 160 miles, 230 miles, and 300 miles.

Musk says he doesn’t expect the Model X prototype to change very much in its looks and design when it reaches production. Most changes would be done simply to improve aerodynamics. The car keeps many of the design elements of the Model S, although with a slightly higher roof-line.

Tesla Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen says he tried to design the car so as not to look too masculine or feminine.

The Tesla Model X is set to enter production in 2013, with sales beginning in 2014.

The Apple co-founder’s file is 191 pages long and contains a few things that just may surprise you, including a bomb threat on his home, and second-hand reports of drug use.

The file reveals that Jobs’ background had been checked in 1991 for an appointment to the White House Export Council under President George H.W. Bush, and that he along with other Apple employees were targets of a 1985 bomb threat.

The Steve Jobs FBI file shows no felony convictions and dryly lists lawsuits in which Jobs had been involved, but it also mentions various unnamed associates who mentioned Jobs’ drug use and questioned his “honesty.”

As part of the 1991 Federal Bureau of Investigation background check, one agent wrote, “Several Individuals commented concerning past drug use on the part of Mr. Jobs.” It adds, “Mr. Jobs also commented concerning his past drug use.” (p.37)

On that same page: “Several individuals questioned Mr. Jobs’ honesty, stating that Mr. Jobs will twist the truth and distort reality in order to achieve his goals.”

“[Name redacted] also advised that he was aware that Mr. Jobs used illegal drugs, including marijuana and LSD while they were attending college.” (p. 41)

The file also mentions (p. 40) that “based on the background information furnished by Mr. Jobs, he has no close relatives residing in communist-controlled countries.” Former associates at Apple said they “recommended him for a position of trust with the Government.”

Most of the FBI was compiled at the request of the White House back in 1991, when Jobs was president of NeXT computers and owner of the Pixar software company, which was struggling at the time and would later go on to make such movies as “Toy Story.”

Jobs, who was booted from Apple in a power struggle back in 1985, returned in 1996 and became the company’s CEO in 1997.

The 1985 bomb threat apparently dealt with a person who was demanding $1 million and claimed to have placed explosives in Jobs’ home along with those of three other Apple employees.

The threat was eventually traced to a hotel near the San Francisco Airport Hilton.

Apple will be holding an event next month (March), and word on the street is that the company is getting set to unveil the long-awaited iPad 3.

The event will most likely be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, which is where Apple traditionally likes to hold their large media events. The timing certainly seems to make sense for Apple as the company launched the iPad 2 in early March last year. This event will likely take place during the first week of March.

We don’t yet know when the iPad 3 will actually be available, but you can probably expect to look for it a few weeks after the initial announcement.

So what do we know about it? We expect the iPad 3 to feature a faster processor, faster graphics, and a higher resolution screen.

Apple will likely include its new A6 chip in the iPad 3, which was initially expected to be a quad-core chip, although more recent rumors now suggest it will be a faster dual-core processor.

The effort is part of NASA’s new Integrated Design Project (IDC).

The space agency plans to invest $300 million to $500 million into each of the companies chosen under new 21-month partnership agreements, said Ed Mango, manager of NASA’s Commercial Crew program, at an industry briefing at the Kennedy Space Center.

With the space shuttle fleet being retired in 2011, Russia currently corners the market when it comes to flying crews to the ISS, a $100 billion orbiting research laboratory.

Russia charges NASA approximately $60 million per person for rides to the station, which orbits about 240 miles above Earth and is staffed by rotating crews of six astronauts.

Winning companies would have until May 2014 to finish their integrated designs, with the goal of then testing out the “space taxi” by the middle of the decade.

The test ships should be capable of carrying at least four people, Mango said.

Since 2010, NASA has invested a total of $365.5 million in private companies, including $130.9 million in Boeing, $125.6 million in Sierra Nevada Corp, and $75 million in Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX).

Boeing is developing a CST-100 capsule that could fly on an Atlas 5 rocket. SpaceX, which is already flying cargo to the station for NASA, plans to upgrade its Dragon freighter and Falcon 9 rocket.

Sierra Nevada is developing a winged vehicle called the Dream Chaser that sort of looks like a mini space shuttle. Like Boeing’s spaceship, it too would launch aboard Atlas 5 rockets, which are manufactured and sold by United Launch Alliance, a Boeing-Lockheed Martin partnership.

“If we have multiple partners, we think the most we might be able to give them in the long term might be something along the lines of $400 million per partner,” Mango said.

NASA explained in a press statement that the aim of IDC is “to outsource our space station transportation so NASA can focus its energy and resources on deep space exploration.”

NASA hopes to be able to fly its astronauts on its commercial space taxi by 2017.

The social network’s CEO will owe taxes on gains related to the award of options, Facebook said this week in its initial public offering prospectus. The options were given to Zuckerberg in 2005 and expire in 2015, and he’ll sell stock to cover liabilities, according to Facebook.

“We expect that substantially all of the net proceeds Mr. Zuckerberg will receive upon such sale will be used to satisfy taxes that he will incur upon his exercise of an outstanding stock option to purchase 120,000,000 shares” of common stock, according to the filing.

Zuckerberg, 27, will now likely become one of the world’s wealthiest people with a stake in Facebook that could be worth as much as $28.4 billion. His company, which on February 1 filed to raise as much as $5 billion in an IPO, is now reportedly discussing a potential valuation of $75 billion to $100 billion.

At the high end of that spectrum, assuming approximately 2.51 billion Facebook shares outstanding, each share may then be worth roughly $39.79. The shares awarded to Mark Zuckerberg carry an exercise price of 6 cents. Assuming Zuck purchases all 120 million shares at that price, his gains would come to about $4.77 billion.

Zuckerberg’s tax rate will likely be in the 35 percent range, meaning his total tax bill would be about $1.67 billion.

Facebook had a received a valuation of at least $94 billion, or about $40 a share, in an auction of its shares on the private market earlier this week.

It seems the internet giant may be looking to open its first retail store.

Amazon is reportedly taking a look at a location in Seattle, Washington top open a good, old-fashioned, brick-and-mortar store within the next few months.

The store will likely sell exclusive books, e-readers, and tablet devices.

The new location would ideally serve as a test run to see if there is enough demand to open more Amazon stores across the country.

According to official stats released by Twitter, the highest tweets per second count came at the end of the game – a record-busting 12,233 per second.

During the final minutes of the game, in which the New York Giants defeated the New England Patriots, an average of 10,000 tweets per second were sent by fans, beating the previous record of 9,000 set last August when Beyonce revealed her pregnancy at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards.

Twitter’s previous record high for a sporting event was 7,196 tweets per second at the final whistle of Japan’s shocking upset against the U.S. in the women’s World Cup final in July of last year.

Madonna‘s Super Bowl halftime show saw an average of 8,000 tweets per second over the course of about five minutes, although that peaked at a stunning 10,245.

Mere hours after its biggest release to date, the hacktivist collective crashed the official website of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Just before 4 p.m. EST yesterday afternoon (Friday), DHS.gov was taken offline.  Members of the group immediately took credit for the attack.

Within minutes, the website came back up.

That wasn’t the only mischief Anonymous cooked up yesterday.  Earlier in the day, Anonymous released the audio of a conference call between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Britain’s Scotland Yard in which both organizations talk about Anonymous. The call was conducted last month and the FBI has confirmed its authenticity.

As if that wasn’t enough, the group also hacked the website for the law firm representing Sgt. Frank Wuterich, a U.S. Marine who was recently put on trial for a massacring innocent Iraqi civilians in Haditha in 2005. Despite admitting his guilt in the matter and asking his fellow Marines to “shoot first, ask later,” Wuterich got no jail time.

The  company’s website, Puckettfaraj.com, was hacked and vandalized.

Along with the attack came the release of 3GB worth of the firm’s email messages that include records, testimony, trial evidence, and even donation records associated with the marine’s trial.

In November 2005, Marine Sgt. Frank Wuterich led his fellow Marines into a massacre of unarmed Iraqis. In a plea deal made last month, Sgt. Wuterich received a cut in pay and a reduction in rank, but served jail time.

A message left by Anonymous on the Puckettfaraj.com website referred to Sgt. Wuterich as a “scumbag.”

“As part of our ongoing efforts to expose the corruption of the court systems and the brutality of US imperialism, we want to bring attention to USMC SSgt Frank Wuterich who along with his squad murdered dozens of unarmed civilians during the Iraqi Occupation,” read the posting.

“We went ahead and fired off some shots of our own – at the servers and personal email accounts of Puckett & Faraj. We defaced their website and dumped nearly 3GB of private email messages belonging to Neal Puckett and Haytham Faraj.”

The message ended with the file dump, along with this warning:

“If you didn’t dig it then then you better dig it now. We are calling upon all allied battleships to rise up and make some mayhem. NDAA/PIPA/SOPA for real? The internet is ours for the taking, and we will destroy every corporation and government that attempts to stand in our way.”

The 16 websites affected offered links that gave viewers easy access to other sites that hosted pirated broadcasts from the National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA), National Hockey League (NHL), World Wrestling Entertainment Inc (WWE), and TNA Impact Wrestling.  Impact Wrestling is broadcast on Spike TV.

Prosecutors say that this type of piracy costs leagues and broadcasters millions of dollars per year, and those losses get passed on to ticket buyers.

“These websites and their operators deprive sports leagues and networks of legitimate revenue” in what amounts to “virtual thievery,” said U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara in Manhattan.

Ironically enough, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who will start in Sunday’s Super Bowl versus the New York Giant, admitted in a video uploaded to the NFL website yesterday that he’s used illegal websites to view sporting events.

“Last year, you know, I was rehabbing my foot, you know, in Costa Rica, watching the game on an illegal Super Bowl website,” Brady said in the video. “And now I’m actually playing in the game. So it’s pretty cool.”

The man charged in the case is Yonjo Quiroa, 28, who faces a count of criminal infringement of a copyright.

Prosecutors said Quiroa, also known as Ronaldo Solano, operated his websites from his home in Comstock Park, Michigan, earning at least $13,000 from companies that advertised on his network of websites.

Lawrence Phelan, attorney for the defendant, says Quiroa is now in federal custody and expected to be transferred to New York.

The complaint says U.S. Department of Homeland Security enforcement agent posing as a rep from WWE offered to buy some of Quiroa’s domain names.  He received a response offering to “make a deal.”

Pre-Super Bowl raids are nothing new.  The government announced the seizure of about 10 other sports-related websites exactly one year ago, just prior to Super Bowl XLV.
